Strengths: I have a strong childhood devolopment background. Prior to having children, I worked as a Child Psychotherapist(MSW). I worked with children as well as their parents, offering parent guidance. In the Fall, I will be participating in Biomed Support Groups for the Oakland County Autism Chapter. We are currently building a "Green Home". To me, "green" means nontoxic. I have gained enormous knowledge in terms of safe products and toxic products for the home, thus being healthier for our kids!!
Why I became a
Rescue Angel:
I was one of the "crazy" moms who did Biomed before anyone was openly speaking of the connection between Autism and vaccines. It was very lonely not having any support, as everyone thought I was nuts. Also, very few people knew much about Biomed intervention. We started treatment with a local Dr., then took Jake to see Dr. Amy Holmes in Baton Rougue LA, one of the pioneers of Biomed, who eventually turned her practice over to Dr. Caves. I would like to become a "Rescue Angel" to help others through this emotional time and give them resources and limited guidance.
Child's Symptoms: Severe receptive/expressive language delay, sensory issues, limited sleeping, tantrums
Helpful Therapies: Jacob was in intesnse speech therapy for about 6 months before we began Biomedical Interventions. He made very minimal progress.

Why I became a
Rescue Angel:

Oh, and dad's too :)

Strengths: I feel that I am very knowledgeable in all areas. I was lucky enough to be a parent advocate in a program called START that my son's school was taking part in. It was a program where different districts gatherd with teachers, speech pathologist, aids, student social worker, resource room teacher and the principal attended and I was the parent they asked and Dylan was there target student. I was always open about Dylan's Autism and with the school and I teaming up we work together to help Dylan become a better student. The START program teaches you how childern with Autism hear, why they stim and how to diagnos and teach a student. I do have a Certificate for completing that program. I feel I am able to help in those areas. We are currently seeking a DAN doctor up at U of M.
Why I became a
Rescue Angel:
My child is taking strattera and was "officially" diagnosed at 5 with Autism. He had early intervention and went from the child standing alone in gym class in Kindergarden to a very popular fourth grader now going into fifth. Of course there are times when Autism smacks us back in the face we remember the great strides Dylan has taken and for me to be able to share this info with others I could not be happier.
Child's Symptoms: Flapping, laughing inappropriately, extreme sense of sound and smell, trouble interacting with other childern, speech delay
Helpful Therapies: Early intervention with ABA, biomedical interventions

Strengths: Nutritional & Biomedical Interventions, Behavioral & Developmental Therapies; ABA, Speech & Language, Occupational & Sensory Integration
Why I became a
Rescue Angel:
I want to be a part of the solution. The first step in solving any problem is awareness. Parents need to know that recovery is possible with the proper therapies and who better to inform them than a parent of a recovered autistic child?
Child's Symptoms: Significant delays in verbal & non verbal skills at 19 months: loss of vocabulary, fleeting eye contact, repetitive language/ echolalia, stereotyped behaviors: hand flapping, toe walking, ritualistic behaviors such as spinning objects, making patterns, lining up toys. Seemingly deaf to his name, but could always hear the train coming from a distance and would stop what he was doing to go over to the door to watch for it. Inappropriate affection to strangers, sensory processing disorder, chronic diarrhea/leaky gut.
Helpful Therapies: Detoxification (Organic Foods, taking all toxins out his diet), Nutritional (Diet: GF/CF, completely organic food), Supplements: Minerals, Amino Acids, Cod Oil) & Biomedical Intervention: DAN! Protocol, Behavioral & Developmental Therapies such as Applied Behavioral Analysis, Speech & Language, Occupational Therapies. I incorporated all of those therapies plus basic therapies like music or play therapies into everyday life and Marcel made significant progress to the point of recovery.
