About Us: A Brief History of Generation Rescue
Generation Rescue was formed by parents of children who have been diagnosed with childhood neurological disorders (NDs). Through our own research and initiative we have discovered a truth that we feel every parent should know: Autism, Asperger's, ADHD, ADD, PDD-NOS, other learning disabilities are all environmental illnesses that can be prevented and treated through biomedical intervention. An overwhelming amount of evidence exists in the scientific and medical literature to support this position, however, the information has been slow to disseminate to the general public and to those who need it most: parents.
Board Of Directors:

Jenny McCarthy is a best-selling author, actress, activist, and mother who recovered her son Evan from autism. Her latest book, Louder than Words, profiled her own son’s journey of recovery. She is also the co-founder of Teach2Talk.com, which produces a DVD educational series that targets core speech, language, play and social skills through video modeling.

Deirdre Imus is a national leader in children’s health and environmental awareness.  Mrs. Imus is the Founder and President of the Deirdre Imus Environmental Center for Pediatric Oncology®.  She is co-founder and co-director with husband, Don Imus, of the Imus Cattle Ranch for Kids with Cancer.  Mrs. Imus is a best-selling author of the Green This! series, including the latest book Growing Up Green, Baby and Child Care.

Before devoting her full-time efforts to recovering her son Christian, Katie Wright was the Clinical Director of the Sexual Assault Crisis Center in Stamford, Connecticut. Her son was the inspiration for the formation of Autism Speaks. Ms. Wright also serves on the boards of the National Autism Association and SafeMinds.

Our Executive Director Stan Kurtz was a crisis counselor and an executive in technology development prior to leaving those fields to recover his son from autism. Mr. Kurtz developed Methyl-B-12 Nasal Spray therapy, and his research and advocacy continues to highlight the collective relationship between infections and toxins to autism, ADHD and many chronic illnesses.  Mr. Kurtz is the founder of Children's Corner School in Van Nuys, California, a unique school that focuses on research, health, nutrition and a green school environment as a foundation for child development.

JB and Lisa Handley Generation Rescue was founded as an act of love to their son and to all the other children who are fighting to live the life they were meant to live. When their son Jamison was diagnosed with autism, they were told by so many "experts" that he was destined to live a challenging life. Luckily, other parents and an amazing network of Doctors told them that it didn't have to be this way, and that proper treatment led to both improvement and recovery. Generation Rescue was then formed to help as many families as possible find recovery for their children.

A brief history of Generation Rescue:
February 2005:
J.B. Handley, a co-founder of Generation Rescue, is interviewed on NBC discussing his son’s autism diagnosis and what he believes caused it.
May 2005:
Lisa Handley and J.B. Handley launch Generation Rescue. The launch includes a press conference (audio available here), a press release, and a full page advertisement in USA Today. More than 150 volunteer Rescue Angel families join the launch to help parents begin treatment for their children.
The story of the launch is carried on more than 30 regional news broadcasts including San Francisco, Cleveland, Indianapolis, and Palm Beach, and in dozens of newspapers nationwide, including cover stories in the San Francisco Chronicle and the Contra Costa Times. J.B. and Lisa Handley are also interviewed on the San Francisco affiliate of Fox.
June 2005
Generation Rescue runs a full page advertisement in New York Times comparing the symptoms of autism and the symptoms of mercury poisoning.
October 2005
Lisa Handley, J.B. Handley, their son Jamison, and Generation Rescue are featured in a Cover Story in a local Portland newsweekly, the Willamette Week.
November 2005
Generation Rescue runs a full page advertisement, again in the New York Times, thanking researchers for their work supporting the relationship between environmental toxicity and autism and citing the recovery of children once treated properly.
April 2006
Generation Rescue launches a new website, PutChildrenFirst with a full page advertisement in USA Today. The new website accuses the Centers for Disease Control ("CDC") of knowingly covering-up the role vaccines have played in the autism epidemic and includes many never before seen e-mails from CDC employees.
The full page advertisement prompts an emergency press release and news conference from the CDC, where the CDC attempts to defend their track record in dealing with the autism epidemic. The local Atlanta newspaper where CDC is headquartered, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, runs a front page story discussing the full page ad and noting that the autism controversy is destroying the CDC’s credibility.
November 2006
PutChildrenFirst commissions a survey to prove that few Americans realize mercury is still in the flu shot supply. A press release and the results of the survey are widely circulated. J.B. Handley of Generation Rescue, Lyn Redwood of SafeMinds, Deirdre Imus, and scientist Mike Wagnitz all participate in a press conference to discuss the survey.
The survey’s results appear in more than 200 newspapers around the world, including this story from the Associated Press.
May 2007
Generation Rescue launches a brand new website, providing the most complete and up to date information on biomedical treatment available on the web. Their message is also expanded to included ADD/ADHD.
June 2007
Generation Rescue publishes the results of a survey comparing neurological disorder ("ND") rates of unvaccinated children to vaccinated children. The survey of more than 17,000 children in California and Oregon provided stunning results linking vaccines to autism, ADHD, and asthma. A full-page Ad about the survey runs in The Oregonian, The Orange County Register, and Roll Call.
July 2007
Generation Rescue launches The Rescue Post, the first Blog/News site dedicated to the biomedical autism community. Featured writers include many different parents in the autism community, and Dan Olmsted, the former UPI reporter and author of the acclaimed "Age of Autism" series.
